Victorian communities devastated by the January bushfires say official support has lagged behind the urgent needs of households struggling in the disaster’s aftermath.
Thousands of structures, including homes and outbuildings, were damaged or destroyed as multiple fires tore through the state, with hundreds of homes wiped out.
Residents told 9News that they feel abandoned by the Allan Government and that local relief efforts and community support have arrived faster than government assistance — some saying if they had waited for official help, they would have struggled to access basic essentials like food and shelter.
