Cardinia residents came together in force at the Pakenham Community Hall after the new tax appeared on their rates notices. Locals described it as a big hit to ratepayers, and the strong turnout showed just how deeply the community feels about this unfair burden.
The Community of Pakenham came together to say enough is enough. Using the good name of Emergency Services personnel to introduce a tax in their name, simply to plug a black hole in the budget, is not good enough. At the same time, these same Emergency Services are facing budget cuts this year. Victorians deserve better.
The hall was filled with energy as neighbours stood side by side, sending a clear and united message to the Government: this tax hurts communities – #scrapthetax.
(Photos from the meeting captured the passion and determination of the community.)
