The $5.4 Billion Question: Where Is Our Money Going

Victorians are now being charged Jacinta Allan’s new $5.4 billion Emergency Services Tax — on top of already being the highest‑taxed state in Australia. ABS data shows taxes per person in Victoria have jumped from $4,066 to $6,605 since 2015–16. That’s a 62% increase in less than a decade.

We all support our emergency services. But when every Victorian is being asked to pay more, we deserve to know one thing:

Where is the money really going?

Right now, the government has not provided a clear breakdown of how this new tax will be spent, how much will reach frontline responders, or why Victoria needs to raise more than any other state to deliver essential services.

We are calling for full transparency — clear reporting, independent oversight, and guarantees that funding goes where Victorians expect it to go.

Until the government shows us the numbers, we will keep asking the question:

Where is the money really going?
