Yarra City Council ratepayers will be forced to cough up an extra $14.6 million this financial year to fund the Victorian government’s new Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund.
The council analysis, obtained by the Herald Sun, shows that homeowners and businesses will be hit hard by the new charge to be levied on properties across Victoria.
Yarra Mayor Stephen Jolly, who has led the charge against the introduction of the new levy among metropolitan mayors, said his ratepayers were being forced to hand over millions of dollars in extra payments.
“There are consequences for bad policy,” he said.
