According to the Victorian Farmers Federation’s State of the State Survey, 86% of farmers are “very concerned” about the levy, making it their number one issue. More than 9 in 10 farmers say the Government doesn’t understand or support them

Premier Allan – Your Government must scrap this wrongful Tax. Treasurer Symes you must resign now. Your deception and wrongfully using the good name of Emergency Services Workers is beyond the pale!

Moyne Shire Council strongly opposes the State Government’s decision to pass the Emergency Services Levy onto residents. We know the strain this will place on our community, and we are committed to pushing back. We stand with you and will continue to fight on your behalf.

For Sunraysia’s Qualia Wines it means a $10,000 hike in the emergency services tax it must pay on its 2025-26 rates notice. The previous fire services levy has gone up from a $15,676 bill in 2024-25, to $25,545 under the rebadged ESVF this financial year.

I hope this makes our stance at Baw Baw Shire very clear. Unfortunately the tax is law and will have to be paid. Council has no choice whatsoever but to collect it. The biggest hit is to Farmers and Businesses who are doing it very tough. Symes must put the motions in place to repeal this tax now and resign!

Warrnambool City Council mayor Ben Blain is warning ratepayers to brace themselves as the state government’s Emergency Services Volunteer Fund becomes reality.
